This film is special for us. Along with the rest of the world, Indians were going through a difficult period during Covid. While all the festivities and celebrations had come to a halt, we were mindful while creating this film. We wanted it to celebrate human relationships, humanity, and the spirit of the nation, while also acknowledging that we were going through a difficult time and reminding ourselves that we would get through it.
For this project, we used hand drawn, dynamic lines to animate elements like the diya, adding warmth and life to the film. Lines divide space, guide the viewer’s eye, and create rhythm. But beyond structure, each line holds character. The flickering strokes made the flame feel real, intimate, and almost alive.
→ This approach extended to our depiction of human figures. Slightly uneven, delicate lines captured the emotional essence of the characters, highlighting themes of reflection, connection, and celebration. The contrast between the Diya’s glow and the softness of human forms revealed the soul of each scene. The final film felt handcrafted, rooted in tradition, and deeply resonant, just like Diwali itself.
